Allison and Emily: Two students in EDUPL 800, we are simultaneously noticing events around us as we read Lagemann's historical examination of American education--An Elusive Science: The Troubling History of Education Research. Systematically, the roots of education are visible in schools today and many current tensions were present as early as the 1920s. We ask: Are we learning from our history?
